Read This First: Romans 8:26-28 – “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
I have learned that we are often spiritually weak due to the general effects and constant threat of sin in our lives.
One example of our spiritual weakness is our ignorance in prayer. We usually think we know what to pray for when we pray, but we don’t.
On top of that, we don’t know how to pray for our requests correctly, and often we don’t even have enough faith to believe that God will answer our requests.
Considering all of this frailty, the Spirit comes to our rescue and helps us with our weaknesses.
He helps us by acting as a go-between from our prayer chambers to God’s throne.
Literally, He intercepts and intercedes for us. His prayers, though, are SOOO INTENSE that words no longer come from his mouth; all that comes out are deep moanings that we cannot understand.
But the fact that the Spirit uses wordless moans and groans serves as no obstacle for God.
This is because God knows the hearts and minds of all people, and if God knows the minds of all people, how much more does he know the mind of the Spirit? He definitely knows it.
Therefore, moans and groans are ok with God the Father. He doesn’t need the Holy Spirit to use words to express himself because he understands the Spirit’s innermost thoughts.
But the best part is that not only does the Father understand what the Spirit is asking for, but he also approves of it!
He approves of the Spirit’s requests because he knows that every time the Spirit prays, he advocates for the believers in a way that agrees with God’s desires.
Therefore, based on God’s knowledge and approval of the Spirit’s wordless yet intense intercession, God responds to our prayers by working all things together in our lives for the good.
Thus, God the Father and God the Spirit cooperate with one another to counterbalance our ignorance in prayer to give us the strength we so desperately need.
Praise the Lord!
